Occupational Therapy

WHAT IS IT?
The word “occupation” encompasses all functional activities that a child at any age needs to be successful in life. Occupational therapists carry the role of holistic child development specialists, helping children be successful in the many “jobs” of childhood.

All therapy is in the form of play. Children are challenged in a safe, controlled, and sensory rich environment to promote growth and meet their individual functional goals. Occupational therapists draw from extensive knowledge, training, and experience in child development, using activities to challenge and teach, while safeguarding and building a child’s self confidence and esteem.

In order to commence services a child must have a CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® assessment or a current evaluation from an outside party. The evaluation process supports a successful outcome. See ASSESSMENTS for more information regarding CSC Assessments.

SIGNS YOUR CHILD NEEDS HELP.
Your bright child may need our help if you recognize some of the following behaviors:

• Has disruptive behaviors and struggles to play with friends
  
• Avoids climbing or playing with balls & seems clumsy; Falls frequently
  
• Struggles or is unable to hold a pencil and/or scissors
  
• Avoids or struggles to draw and handwrite
  
• Sitting still is a challenge, unless focused on computer or TV
  
• Seems sensitive to the world
