Articulation Assessment and Full Speech and Language Assessment
WHAT TO EXPECT
Introduction to Speech & Language Therapy
Welcome to the CHILD SUCCESS CENTER®. We look forward to working with you and your child. Our goal for each child, regardless of age, is that he or she becomes a successful, independent learner.
By working closely with parents and teachers we are able to implement the most effective and current treatment strategies and programs available. The following outlines our therapeutic approach.
Intake & Assessment
The intake process includes an articulation and/or language assessment as well as a review of your child’s development and medical history. The assessment is mandatory for entrance into speech and language programs at the CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® and helps us to facilitate an appropriate and effective treatment program for your child. (If you have a recent evaluation and wish to use it, contact the CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® for further details.)
This intake process includes testing time and a written report. A parent consultation is also available for families wishing to review the results with the assessing therapist.
Speech & Language Therapy
All therapeutic services are one-to-one and individualized to address each child’s specific needs. Following the assessment and records review, a therapy program, if appropriate, may be recommended.
Speech and language therapy generally focuses on foundational learning skills such as:
- Articulation
- Oral motor strength and coordination
- Fluency
- Concept and vocabulary development; grammar
- Phonemic awareness
- Language processing
- Social skills
The development of these skills is essential for effective learning and academic success.
Periodically, difficulty in speech and language development precedes additional learning differences.
For the child who may require additional support, the CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® maintains a staff of highly qualified occupational and educational therapists. A referral may be made if the speech language pathologist feels that your child may benefit from additional support in the areas of:
- Fine or gross motor skills
- Visual processing
- Reading
- Spelling
- Writing
- Math
