WHAT TO EXPECT
Introduction to Educational Therapy
Welcome to the Child Success Center. We look forward to working with you and your child. Our goal for each student, regardless of age, is that he/she becomes a comfortable, independent learner. By working closely with parents and teachers we are able to implement the most effective and current strategies and programs available. The following outlines our therapeutic approach.
Intake & Assessment
The intake process includes a functional academic and learning skills assessment and /or record review, parent/client consultation, report and recommendations, and program setup. The intake process is mandatory for entrance into any CHILD SUCCESS CENTER® programs as we want to be sure that from a student’s first day, we are providing the best and most efficient programs and strategies for him or her.
This intake process includes testing time (2-4 hours), a written report with a treatment plan; and a parent consultation for families wishing to review the results with the assessing therapist.
Educational Therapy
All instruction is one- to-one and individualized to each student’s specific needs. Following the assessment or records review, a program will be recommended if appropriate. For many students the program will be designed in 2 phases.
Phase I will be working mainly on processing skills (such as memory, attention, visual and auditory processing, phonemic awareness, language) and executive function (organization, planning, strategies for thinking with information, reasoning). This prepares the brain for academic skills and helps the student to be a more efficient learner.
The majority of our students will need to continue into Phase II, which will generally include basic academic skills development (such as reading, spelling, math, and writing), study skills, communication and language skills, and /or comprehension.
